How To Choose a Notebook

Laptops are as powerful as desktop computers. They're also lighter and much more stylish. They are made in a variety of sizes and colors. They are affordable solution to your computer needs.  Netbooks and tablet computers are light and easy to store. They are small laptops that allow the user to access the Internet and complete small tasks on the go. But notebook buyers have to mull such additional variables as size, weight, screen dimensions, battery life, and keyboard quality -- plus options such as built-in wireless.

Durability of the computer

When purchasing a laptop it is important to buy one that will last a long time. Compare major manufacturers and find out which systems are the most durable.
Determine your battery needs. You will want to look for a laptop with a battery that lasts a long time. Especially if you will be taking your laptop on the road.

Therefore choosing the best laptop rethink first these simple shopping tips.

  1. Before you shop

  2. The basics

  3. Special considerations
  4. Tips & Warnings

Before you shop

    • 1 Major manufacturers

There are various companies and brands, which confuses prospective consumers. A function in a laptop of a particular brand may not be present in a laptop of a different brand.

The best way to purchase a new laptop is to compare various laptops and their features, and then choose the best.

    • You may already have a favorite brand of desktop computer. And it is likely that the same brand will produce a laptop you like. But you may safely choose any current computer model from the major manufacturers. Top brands are Asus, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Gateway, Toshiba, Lenovo and Apple Macintosh. Choose one that feels sturdy, solid and not too heavy. You can generally get a faster computer for your money by choosing a Windows machine, but Macs is more stable having a UNIX core and come with more easy-to-use built-in software.
    • 2 Warranty and Service Plan

Lastly, you will want to look into the details of the standard warranty and additional service plans:

Computer companies and resellers have varying warranties and service plans for laptops. Some companies have you send your laptop back if anything goes wrong, some want you to take it to a service depot (which may be inconveniently located up to 50 miles away), and others will come to your home or business and repair it on the spot.
Dell has a great next business day plan, whereas some others take weeks to get issues resolved.
Be sure to read over both the warranty and the service plan coverage that is offered. Some laptop warranties cover very little, while others cover hardware and sometimes software as well.
Some companies offer secondary service plans if you have a drop or spill. Count on one of the two happening at some point and purchase this secondary policy if it is offered. Also check your homeowner's or renter's insurance. It may cover your laptop, including accidental spills and drops. So you may not need to purchase an extra service plan for that.

3 Prices

Nowadays, feature-rich laptops don't come expensive. There is a wide range of laptops available that are filled with the best features and are also inexpensive at the same time. So a person with a low budget can also get the benefits of a laptop with all the necessary functions. Although you can find desktop computers for anywhere from $400 to $1,000, expect to spend $1,000 more for a good notebook such as MacBook Air.

Mainstream laptops weigh around 2.5 to 3 kilos. To keep the weight in that range, a 14 inch or smaller screen is perfect. Any bigger, it is going to get heavier.
